Computer Angels Computer Sale

Computer Angels is a group of volunteers who promotes and encourages computer literacy for people who may not otherwise have access to computers.

We are now able to offer Computer Angels computer systems to the public for sale for $100. Suitable for first time computer users, school and university students, and those that just want an inexpensive second computer system so they don't have to share. The computer systems are available for sale at our occasional Computer Sale. Download and print our brochure and invite your friends, family and colleagues.

The systems are subject to availability and are fully refurbished from donated hardware, tested and installed with Debian GNU/Linux operating system and user applications as listed below.

Any purchases that you make at our Computer Sale will be supporting the work of our volunteers and assisting people in their first steps to computer competancy.

The computer software is provided on an as-is basis with no warranty of any kind. We will repair or replace parts of the computer hardware at Computer Angels premises:

• that fail under normal conditions of use within three months of purchase, and
• where the computer is operating with the original core software provided by Computer Angels.

We provide complete systems (hardware, operating system and programmes) and do not sell computer components. If you need components to service an existing computer, e.g. hard disk, consider visiting Recycle IT

A Computer Angels computer system includes computer programmes and applications for:

The Internet
	The Mozilla Thunderbird email programme.
	Mozilla Firefox web browser.
	Xchat Internet R elay Chat programme that allows you to communicate in real time with people all over the world.
	The Gaim instant messenging client is compatible with AIM and ICQ (Oscar protocol), MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, SILC, GroupWise Messenger, and Zephyr networks.
	The Nvu web authoring programme allows you to create and publish your web site.

Office Productivity
	The AbiWord word processing progamme.
	Gnumeric is a powerful spreadsheet programme.
	OpenOffice.org is a productivity suite compatible with all major office suites and includes a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing, web editor, math and database access.

Drawing and Painting
	The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) allows you to process and edit images, for example, photographs from your digital camera.
	TuxPaint allows children and adults to get creative with a complete set of drawing tools, stamps, and special effects.
	Inkscape is an open source drawing tool with capabilities similar to Illustrator, Freehand, and CorelDraw that uses the W3C standard scalable vector graphics format (SVG).
	Adobe Acrobat Reader allows you to view and print Portable Document Format (PDF) documents downloaded from the internet or sent to you by friends and colleagues.
	GQview allows you to view images with a single click. Includes thumbnail view and zooming.
	Gthumb allows you to access your photographs from a digital camera.
	Xsane allows you acquire images from your scanner.

Multimedia
	Xine and RealPlayer are included so that you can view streaming video.
	The Computer Angels computer systems do not include a CD burner, but gnomebaker, the CD burner software is already installed and ready to use if you decide to purchase a CD burner later.

Genealogy
	Genealogical Research and Analysis Management Programming System or GRAMPS allows you to build and maintain your family tree.

Games
	Includes Enigma, Gnometris, Solitaire, Pingus, Minesweeper, Gnome Mahjong, Tux Typing, Gnibbles, Defendguin, CircusLinux, and Frozen Bubble.

Desktop and Utilities
	Computer Angels computer systems use the Xfce desktop environment. Customisation and configuration of windows, mouse, screen savers, and backgrounds provided from one easy window. Note: Backgrounds are photographs of Western Australia and are provided by volunteers and PLUG members. Special thanks for these photographs go to Cameron Patrick and Leon Brooks.
	The Rox Filer provides easy access to your files and documents on the hard disk, floppy disk and CDROM drive.
	The Gnome printer configuration programme is included to allow you to add, manage, and delete printers recommended by LinuxPrinting.org.
	Synaptic allows you to download and install new programmes and new versions of existing programmes.
	An easy to use inteface is provided for you to set up your dial-up or broadband internet connection.
